ALMM List-II Solar Cell Capacity Nears 28 GW After Latest Additions

India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar cells has witnessed a notable expansion, with total enlisted capacity rising to 27,753 MW, up from 26,477 MW recorded in February, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The latest update includes an addition of 2,829 MW of solar cell manufacturing capacity, reflecting continued growth in domestic production capabilities.

Among the new entrants, Reliance Industries has secured a place in the list with 1,238 MW of heterojunction technology (HJT) solar cells manufactured at its Gujarat facility. These cells feature advanced specifications, including high efficiency levels and optimized design dimensions, positioning them among the more technologically advanced offerings in the market.

Jupiter Solartech, a subsidiary of Jupiter International, has also contributed significantly by adding 991 MW of mono PERC bifacial solar cell capacity from its facility in Himachal Pradesh. The newly enlisted models are designed to deliver strong performance with competitive efficiency and output metrics.

Additionally, Websol Energy System has expanded its presence in the list by adding 600 MW of monocrystalline PERC P-type bifacial solar cells from its West Bengal unit, taking its total enlisted capacity to 1,202 MW. The newly approved models are expected to enhance the company’s manufacturing footprint in the domestic market.

The enlistments for Reliance and Jupiter are valid until April 2030, while Websol’s additions will remain valid until November 2029.

In a related development, MNRE has proposed a draft amendment to introduce an ALMM List-III dedicated to solar wafers. This move is aimed at strengthening backward integration in the solar manufacturing value chain and supporting the development of a more self-reliant domestic ecosystem.

However, industry experts have raised concerns regarding limited upstream manufacturing capacity and tight compliance timelines, cautioning that these factors could potentially impact supply chains and influence future bidding trends in the sector.
