Andhra Pradesh Approves Rs 158 Billion Worth of Renewable Energy Projects
Jan 09, 2026
The Andhra Pradesh government has cleared renewable energy project proposals totaling Rs 158 billion at the 14th State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting, marking a significant boost to the state’s clean energy ambitions.
The renewable energy approvals formed part of the Rs 193.91 billion worth of total investments sanctioned during the meeting.
Among the key clearances was Tata Power’s investment proposal of Rs 66.75 billion to establish a 10 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. The project aligns with the central government’s push to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing under the proposed Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-III) framework for ingots and wafers.
Under the ALMM framework, projects covered by the scheme will be required to source modules from ALMM List-I, which must use solar cells listed under ALMM List-II. These cells, in turn, will be required to use wafers included in ALMM List-III, creating an integrated domestic supply chain.
The SIPB also approved Websol Energy System’s Rs 35.38 billion investment plan to set up a 4 GW integrated solar cell and module manufacturing plant at Naidupeta.
In addition, the state cleared Shirdi Sai Electrical’s proposal worth Rs 55.71 billion to establish a transformer component and wind-mast manufacturing and fabrication facility in Kadapa, further strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.
The approvals come amid rising investor interest in the state. In November 2025, decarbonisation solutions provider ReNew announced plans to invest approximately Rs 600 billion in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed investments include a 6 GW solar ingot-wafer manufacturing plant, a 2 GW pumped hydro storage project, a 3,000 kilotons-per-annum green ammonia facility, and 5 GW of hybrid renewable energy projects combining wind, solar, and solar-battery energy storage systems.
To accelerate clean energy deployment, the Andhra Pradesh Energy Department has also issued detailed operational guidelines under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024. These cover key aspects such as resource allocation, land allotment, grid connectivity, open access, banking facilities, project migration, fees, and incentives, aimed at facilitating faster execution of renewable energy projects across the state.
