Apraava Energy and SELCO Foundation Bring Solar Power to Assam and Nagaland, Positively Impacting 21,000 Rural Lives

Oct 28, 2025

In a significant step toward sustainable rural development in India’s Northeast, Apraava Energy has partnered with the SELCO Foundation to solarize community, healthcare, and educational facilities across Assam and Nagaland, delivering reliable clean energy to underserved regions and improving the lives of more than 21,000 people.

The initiative is expected to offset around 57 tonnes of CO? emissions annually, equivalent to planting approximately 2,580 trees each year, while enhancing access to essential services in remote areas.

In Assam’s Chirang district, a 27.5 kW solar-powered community complex is supporting various development programs focused on healthcare, education, livelihoods, and youth empowerment. The facility houses a weaving unit for women artisans, mental health and physiotherapy clinics, and a legal aid centre assisting women affected by domestic violence.

A youth centre within the complex engages over 800 young people through skill development and cultural activities. Local farmers, women entrepreneurs, and NGOs benefit from ongoing capacity-building workshops, while 17 forest-based learning centres serving over 700 children now have access to clean drinking water and sanitation.

In Nagaland’s Kohima district, the villages of Jhakama and Zhadima have been equipped with 22.32 kW solar systems, powering schools, health centres, and community facilities. The installations have strengthened digital learning infrastructure across five rural schools, benefiting more than 1,000 students, while solar-powered streetlights have enhanced community safety after dark.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head of CSR at Apraava Energy, said,
“Building sustainable communities lies at the heart of our CSR strategy. In the Northeast, we’ve deepened our engagement to address both immediate and long-term community needs. This collaboration is a strong example of holistic development that uplifts every section of society sustainably.”

Beyond this partnership, Apraava continues to strengthen its community investment programs. Its Agri-SHE initiative in Assam is empowering over 3,000 women entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods. In collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the company operates a centralized mid-day meal kitchen in Jorhat, providing 11,000 nutritious meals daily to schoolchildren. Apraava also supports 15 grassroots women changemakers driving social transformation across the state.

Apraava Energy owns and operates transmission assets across Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, and has entered the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) space. Its smart metering project in Assam was the first in India to achieve ‘Go-Live’ status under the Government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

Jointly owned by the CLP Group and La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), Apraava Energy maintains a diversified 3.4 GW portfolio of wind, solar, and transmission assets across 13 Indian states. The company continues to invest in low-carbon growth areas, aligned with its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
