ARAI, Indian Oil Partner on Phase I Green Hydrogen Transport Pilot
Feb 02, 2026
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has entered into a partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) to launch Phase I of a green hydrogen pilot project focused on the transport sector. The initiative is being undertaken under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and is aimed at advancing India’s low-emission mobility roadmap.
ARAI, an autonomous organisation operating under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, formalised the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil. The agreement was exchanged by Dr. Reji Mathai, Director, ARAI, and Dr. Umish Srivastava, Executive Director, IOCL, underscoring a coordinated push to strengthen the country’s emerging hydrogen ecosystem, according to the ministry.
The pilot programme is designed to evaluate the practical deployment of green hydrogen as an alternative transport fuel, supporting India’s broader shift toward cleaner mobility solutions. Aligned with the government’s Viksit Bharat vision, the project is expected to contribute to national Net Zero commitments while reinforcing efforts to build a sustainable and self-reliant energy framework.
