B Sairam Takes Charge as CEO of Coal India

Coal India Limited (CIL) has named its Chairman and Managing Director, B Sairam, as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, the miner said in a regulatory disclosure.

The appointment was approved by Coal India’s board during its meeting on December 26, 2025. Although the board decision was taken later, Sairam’s tenure as CEO comes into effect from December 15, 2025. He will continue in the role until his retirement or until further instructions are issued, whichever occurs first.

A graduate in mining engineering from NIT Raipur, Sairam brings more than 30 years of experience in India’s coal industry. Before assuming charge as CMD of Coal India, he headed Northern Coalfields Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of CIL, as its CMD.

Over the course of his career, he has also served in key technical leadership positions at Central Coalfields, where he was involved in mine planning and development, coal transportation systems, and securing statutory and regulatory approvals.
