BHEL Secures Rs8,000 Cr. Contract for Koradi Thermal Power Station Expansion

Feb 10, 2025

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been awarded a Letter of Award by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco-MSPGCL) for the 2x660 MW Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) package at the Koradi Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This project, which forms part of Koradi TPS Units 11 & 12, will play a critical role in expanding Maharashtra's power generation capacity.

The Koradi TPS, with an existing installed capacity of 2,400 MW, is one of the state's key power plants. The addition of 1,320 MW through this expansion will enhance MAHAGENCO’s overall installed capacity, significantly strengthening the state’s energy security. The scope of the work includes the supply, erection, commissioning, and civil works for the BTG equipment.

The project is expected to be completed in a phased manner, with Unit-11 set to be completed in 52 months and Unit-12 in 58 months. The total value of the order is approximately Rs8,000 Crore, excluding GST.

This major expansion will not only help in addressing the growing power demand in Maharashtra but also contribute to the state’s economic growth by ensuring a reliable supply of electricity. It reflects BHEL’s ongoing commitment to supporting India’s energy infrastructure and boosting thermal power generation capabilities.
