Boiler Explosion at Vedanta Plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti Leaves 13 Dead, Probe Underway

Apr 15, 2026

A tragic industrial accident at a thermal power facility operated by Vedanta Limited in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district has claimed the lives of at least 13 workers, while over 20 others remain critically injured. Authorities have indicated that the death toll could rise as several victims are in serious condition.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm at Unit 1 of the plant in Singhitari village, triggering panic across the site. Emergency services, including fire brigades and rescue teams, were quickly deployed to manage the situation and shift the injured to nearby medical facilities.

Preliminary findings suggest that the blast may have been caused by a rupture in a boiler tube, leading to a high-pressure steam leak that ultimately resulted in the explosion within the coal-fired system. According to local officials, a total of 34 workers sustained severe burn injuries, of whom 13 have succumbed, while 21 continue to receive treatment.

District authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess any lapses in safety protocols.
