CERC Grants POWERGRID Transmission License for Bhadla-Bikaner Inter-State System
Jan 15, 2025
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) issued an order granting a transmission license to POWERGRID Bhadla Bikaner Transmission Limited. This license pertains to the development of an inter-state transmission system and aims to strengthen the interconnections between the Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III complexes on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
The project involves the construction of critical infrastructure, including a 765 kV double circuit line and 240 MVAr switchable line reactors, slated for commissioning by August 30, 2026. POWERGRID, after winning a competitive bidding process managed by PFC Consulting Limited, quoted the lowest annual transmission charges of Rs979.70 million.
The Commission’s preliminary order from November 28, 2024, confirmed that the petitioner's conditions were met. With no objections raised in response to a public notice, the Commission granted the transmission license, underscoring the commitment to enhancing India’s power transmission infrastructure and ensuring efficient, sustainable energy distribution.
