Cummins India to Source Renewable Power from CleanMax’s Hybrid Projects in Maharashtra

Dec 20, 2025

Cummins India has announced plans to procure renewable electricity from CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions’ upcoming solar–wind hybrid power projects in Maharashtra under a group captive arrangement. As part of the transaction, Cummins India will acquire an 8.78 percent equity stake in the project special purpose vehicle (SPV) for an investment of up to Rs2.70 crore.

In a regulatory filing, the company said its Board of Directors has approved the purchase of equity shares in Clean Max Yellowstone, the SPV established for the project. The investment will be made in one or more tranches. Two other Cummins Group entities in India will also participate in the investment, with the group collectively holding at least 26 percent of the SPV’s equity to meet regulatory requirements applicable to group captive power projects.

Cummins India and CleanMax have executed a Share Purchase Agreement to formalise the arrangement. CleanMax will develop offsite captive solar, wind, and hybrid power generation facilities in Maharashtra and supply renewable electricity from these projects to Cummins under the group captive framework.

According to Cummins India’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report, renewable energy accounted for 10.57 percent of the company’s total energy consumption in FY 2024–25. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader efforts to expand its renewable energy footprint.

As outlined in Cummins’ 2024–25 Sustainability Progress Report, the group continues to scale up solar capacity worldwide, with on-site solar installations now spread across 66 locations globally. During 2024, Cummins completed 21 new on-site solar projects. These efforts are complemented by the company’s participation in the expansion of the Meadow Lake Wind Farm in northwest Indiana through a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA). Collectively, Cummins’ renewable energy generation and procurement initiatives helped reduce its global emissions by 136,724 metric tonnes of CO? equivalent in 2024.

In recent developments, CleanMax has strengthened its presence in the group captive renewable energy space. Last month, BASF India partnered with CleanMax to source power from a 12.21 MW wind–solar captive hybrid project in Gujarat, while Equinix signed a power purchase agreement with CleanMax for a 26.4 MWp solar project under a similar group captive structure.
