Eastern India Set for Major Renewable Energy Push by 2030 on Rising C&I Demand
Dec 06, 2025
Eastern India is preparing for strong renewable energy expansion by 2030, driven by increasing Commercial & Industrial (C&I) demand, supportive state policies, and improving infrastructure. These insights were shared at a FICCI–CRISIL dialogue in Kolkata, attended by policymakers, developers, utilities, and industry leaders.
Speakers highlighted the need for faster capacity addition, better grid connectivity, and modern transmission networks to unlock the region’s potential. Former Power Secretary Arun Goyal stressed that resolving intra-state grid bottlenecks is essential for delivering reliable renewable power to industries.
Industry representatives noted that investor-friendly policies, low-carbon goals, and cost competitiveness are accelerating C&I adoption of renewables. AMPIN Energy Transition announced major investments across eastern states, reflecting the region’s growing appeal.
State utilities from Assam and Odisha emphasised ongoing upgrades in grid strength, rooftop solar, and storage readiness. Experts also underlined the role of emerging technologies, VPPs, storage, and gigafactories in shaping the region’s next phase of growth.
According to CRISIL, rising C&I demand, favourable regulations, and expanding transmission capacity position eastern India as one of the country’s fastest-emerging renewable energy markets. FICCI concluded that the region is entering a decisive phase where policy support, industrial ambition, and clean-energy innovation are converging to drive large-scale adoption.
