ENGIE Bags SECI Contract for 200 MW Solar Project with 600 MWh Energy Storage
Jan 14, 2026
ENGIE, a global low-carbon energy and services company, has been awarded a large-scale hybrid solar photovoltaic project integrated with battery energy storage in India through a competitive auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The awarded project includes 200 MW of solar generation capacity paired with a 100 MW / 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), enabling long-duration storage of up to six hours. This marks ENGIE’s first solar-plus-storage hybrid project in India.
The win strengthens ENGIE’s expanding renewable energy presence in the country, where the company currently has nearly 2 GW of renewable capacity either operational or under development. The award also follows ENGIE’s successful bid for its first standalone battery storage project in November, underscoring its long-term commitment to India’s clean energy transition and grid modernisation.
By integrating utility-scale solar power with extended-duration energy storage, the project is designed to provide firm, reliable, and cost-effective renewable electricity, supporting grid stability while enabling round-the-clock clean power delivery.
ENGIE stated that the project aligns closely with India’s objective of building a resilient and future-ready power system as renewable energy penetration accelerates nationwide. The company will now move forward with detailed engineering, procurement, regulatory clearances, and construction, in collaboration with technology partners, suppliers, and relevant authorities to ensure timely project execution.
