G. Kishan Reddy Launches Second Tranche of Exploration Licence Blocks, Unveils GSI’s NG Portal

Feb 14, 2026

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy has launched the second tranche of Exploration Licence (EL) block auctions, marking another step in the government’s efforts to strengthen India’s domestic mineral exploration framework and reduce dependence on imports. The new round of auctions is aimed at accelerating the identification and development of critical and deep-seated mineral resources across the country.

Addressing stakeholders at the launch, the Minister emphasized the importance of expanding exploration activities through a transparent and technology-driven approach. He noted that greater participation from private players, alongside government agencies, will be crucial in unlocking untapped mineral reserves and supporting the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The second tranche comprises 11 mineral blocks spread across eight states, following encouraging industry response to the first round.

Highlighting ongoing sectoral reforms, the Minister said recent amendments to the MMDR Act and updated auction rules have improved transparency, streamlined procedures, and enhanced ease of doing business in the mining sector. These reforms are expected to attract increased investment and build long-term resource security, particularly for critical minerals essential to India’s industrial growth.

During the event, the Minister also inaugurated the Next-Generation (NG) Portal of the Geological Survey of India. The cloud-enabled platform integrates data acquisition, analysis, visualization, and dissemination functions, supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning tools. Designed to work in coordination with the National Geoscience Data Repository, the portal is expected to enhance data transparency and enable more informed decision-making in mineral exploration activities.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and associated agencies attended the launch and roadshow, underlining the government’s continued push to establish a modern, investor-friendly mineral exploration ecosystem aligned with India’s long-term development priorities.
