GAIL Signs Agreement to Establish Waste-to-Energy CBG Plant in Bengaluru

Oct 27, 2025

GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a Tripartite Concession Agreement with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd. (BSWML) to develop a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) facility in the KCDC area of Haralakunte Village, Bengaluru South Taluk. The initiative aims to convert municipal waste into clean, renewable energy.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, outlines that GBA will allocate 18 acres of land for the project, while BSWML will supply 300 tonnes of segregated municipal solid waste daily. GAIL’s statement noted that this waste will be processed to generate 12.6 tonnes of CBG per day.

In addition, the plant will yield about 22 tonnes of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) daily, contributing to sustainable agriculture and a circular economy. The concession will remain valid for 25 years from the commissioning date.

This collaboration marks a significant stride in Bengaluru’s green energy and waste management strategy, aligning with the Government of India’s SATAT initiative and the Swachh Bharat Mission.
