Government Cancels 6.3 GW of Renewable Energy Connectivity Approvals Due to Project Delays
Dec 09, 2025
India’s renewable energy ambitions are beginning to strain the country’s project connectivity and commercialization capacity. The Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd (CTUIL) has revoked transmission connectivity approvals for 6.3 GW of green energy projects due to delays in their development, Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Responding to a parliamentary query, Naik also stated that 16 petitions are currently pending before the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). These cases involve power generators seeking protection against the cancellation of their transmission connectivity approvals.
He noted that an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) capable of evacuating 172 GW of renewable power is already under implementation, with bids underway for an additional 19 GW. In parallel, the central government is coordinating with states to ensure the timely rollout of intra-state transmission infrastructure required for the evacuation of 152 GW of renewable capacity.
The update comes amid ongoing challenges in the renewable sector, including generation curtailment and a mounting backlog of unsigned power purchase agreements (PPAs)—issues that have increasingly affected project viability and investor confidence.
