Haryana Makes Rooftop Solar Mandatory for All Government Buildings to Speed Up Clean-Energy Shift

Dec 08, 2025

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed all state government institutions—including schools, colleges, hospitals, and administrative offices—to install rooftop solar systems as part of an accelerated push toward clean energy adoption. The directive aims to strengthen Haryana’s transition to green power and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.

The announcement came during a high-level review meeting on power-sector budget commitments at the civil secretariat. Saini urged departments to fast-track the rollout of the PM Suryaghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, closely monitor monthly progress, and ensure strict supervision so that installations remain on schedule.

He also instructed officials to plan new solar parks across the state to harness Haryana’s renewable energy potential. Additionally, he ordered the immediate removal of old and unsafe electricity poles along highways and major roads to enhance both safety and the visual appeal of urban areas.

As of November 20, 2025, Haryana has completed 42,486 rooftop solar installations. The state aims to deploy 2,22,000 rooftop systems by March 31, 2027. Power utilities have also submitted a new proposal—Saur Urja Protsahan Yojana—which is expected to significantly boost rooftop solar adoption once approved.

Saini emphasized that all commitments within the power sector must be delivered on time to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply statewide. Haryana plans to increase its power availability to 24,000 MW over the next seven years, supported by major capacity expansions, including an upcoming 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal unit at Yamunanagar, to be developed with assistance from BHEL.
