Havells India has announced a strategic collaboration with Pixii AS, a Norway-based energy storage technology company, to introduce advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for residential, commercial, and industrial customers in India. The partnership marks Havells' entry into the rapidly expanding energy storage segment, complementing its existing portfolio of electrical and renewable energy solutions.

Under the collaboration, Havells will leverage its extensive manufacturing capabilities, nationwide sales and distribution network, and strong presence in the Indian market, while Pixii will contribute its modular battery storage technology and expertise in energy management solutions. Together, the companies aim to deliver scalable and efficient BESS solutions that can support grid stability, enhance energy reliability, and improve the integration of renewable energy across multiple customer segments.

The partnership will be implemented in phases, beginning with pilot installations to assess market demand and validate commercial applications. Based on the outcomes, the companies plan to co-develop integrated energy storage solutions tailored to Indian conditions before progressing towards local manufacturing and product localization. This phased approach aligns with India's push to strengthen domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative while reducing dependence on imported clean energy technologies.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India, along with senior representatives from the Embassy of Norway, Havells India, and Pixii AS. The collaboration reflects the growing cooperation between Indian and international companies in advancing clean energy technologies and expanding battery storage capabilities.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming increasingly important as India expands its renewable energy capacity. These systems store excess electricity generated by solar and wind power during periods of high production and discharge it when demand rises or renewable generation declines. In addition to supporting uninterrupted power supply, BESS solutions help reduce peak electricity costs, improve power quality, enable greater renewable energy integration, and provide critical grid services such as frequency regulation and load balancing.

India's battery energy storage sector is witnessing strong momentum, driven by rising renewable energy deployment, increasing electricity demand, and government initiatives promoting standalone and co-located storage projects. Industry estimates indicate that the residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) BESS market could grow into a multi-billion-rupee opportunity by the end of the decade. Through its partnership with Pixii, Havells aims to establish a long-term presence in this emerging market by offering globally proven, locally adapted energy storage solutions that support India's clean energy transition and evolving power infrastructure.
