HydroX: Dr. Sandip Dhurat Files New Hydrogen Vehicle Concept at UKIPO, Marking India’s Push to Decode the “Hydrogen Code”

Nov 20, 2025

In a significant step for India’s clean mobility future, Dr. Sandip Dhurat, an inventor, author, and innovation strategist, has filed a patent with the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) for a new hydrogen-powered vehicle concept named HydroX. Filed during Diwali, the concept represents a major stride toward making hydrogen energy practical, safe, and accessible for everyday use in India.

Dr. Dhurat explains that while several global automobile manufacturers have introduced hydrogen-powered cars in recent years, most remain limited to prototypes due to high-pressure storage challenges, high maintenance costs, and lack of supporting infrastructure — making them unsuitable for large-scale Indian deployment.

Global Context: Hydrogen Adoption Still at an Early Stage

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global green hydrogen production reached around 2.5 million tonnes in 2024, accounting for less than 1% of global energy consumption. Only about 40 countries have substantially invested in hydrogen initiatives. Although Europe and Japan have deployed a few hundred hydrogen buses and trucks, adoption remains in its infancy.

India’s Momentum Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission

India has begun taking major steps forward with a target of producing 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Pilot projects have already put hydrogen-fuelled buses and trucks on Indian roads, marking the first phase of a broader transformation.

Despite global progress, Dr. Dhurat states that the world still hasn’t cracked what he calls the “Hydrogen Code” — making hydrogen people-centric, affordable, and practical for daily life. He believes India is uniquely positioned to decode it through innovation, engineering expertise, and the country’s push toward energy self-reliance.

HydroX: A Complete Hydrogen Energy Ecosystem

HydroX was developed with India’s climate, roads, and infrastructure in mind. The concept focuses on enabling hydrogen mobility at scale through improvements in:

• Storage
• Distribution
• Usage

Dr. Dhurat envisions HydroX as more than just a vehicle — it is designed to be a holistic hydrogen energy approach suited for widespread Indian adoption.

As one of the world’s largest energy consumers, India stands to benefit greatly if even 10% of national energy demand can be met through green hydrogen — leading to substantial reductions in carbon emissions and energy imports.

A People-Centric Vision for Hydrogen

Dr. Dhurat’s goal is to make green hydrogen accessible not only to industries or advanced economies but also to the everyday Indian citizen. He aims to reshape hydrogen into a people-first energy solution, ultimately helping India lead the world in clean energy innovation.

HydroX marks the beginning of this journey. Dr. Dhurat has also shared the initial concept sketch and expressed gratitude for support and blessings as he moves forward with the project.
