Jodhpur DISCOM Raises Rooftop Solar Tariffs by 20% for Net Metering and Net Billing Consumers

Nov 05, 2025

The Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) has announced a 20% increase in tariffs for rooftop solar consumers under both net metering and net billing arrangements.

Residential consumers under net metering will now receive Rs 3.26 (~$0.036)/kWh, up from Rs 2.71 (~$0.03)/kWh. For net billing projects, the tariff has been raised to Rs 3.65 (~$0.04)/kWh, compared to the earlier Rs 3.04 (~$0.034)/kWh.

The revised rates were issued through amendments to the RERC Grid Interactive Distributed Renewable Energy Generating System regulations. The update follows the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC)’s recent move to allow virtual and group net metering across consumer categories, include charge waivers, and introduce battery storage incentives.

Under the amended regulations, eligible consumers can now install distributed renewable systems with capacities ranging from 1 kW to 1 MW. JVVNL, along with Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam, had earlier submitted a petition to RERC seeking these regulatory changes to support the new framework.

Additionally, the Ministry of Power has advised states and union territories to shift to digital contracts for residential rooftop solar applications, replacing physical net-metering agreements. Meanwhile, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) clarified that net billing, virtual net metering, and group net metering will be treated at par with net metering under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II, ensuring uniform treatment across project types commissioned before June 1, 2026.
