EV charging and energy management company Kazam has launched its nationwide 'EV-Ready Ghar' campaign to encourage safe and reliable home charging as electric vehicle adoption continues to gain momentum across India. The initiative follows a joint study conducted by Kazam and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), which found that nearly half of Indian households require electrical upgrades or safety interventions before they can support residential EV charging effectively.

The study, based on insights from more than 80,000 residential EV charger installations across the country, highlights a critical infrastructure challenge accompanying India's growing EV market. Since around 80 percent of EV charging takes place at home, ensuring that residential electrical systems can safely handle the additional load has become increasingly important. Issues such as outdated wiring, inadequate earthing, overloaded distribution boards, and the use of standard household sockets for prolonged charging can compromise both safety and charging performance.

To help consumers evaluate their homes, Kazam has introduced an EV Home Readiness Quiz, a digital self-assessment tool that enables prospective and existing EV owners to determine whether their electrical infrastructure is suitable for home charging. Households identified as requiring improvements can also book an on-site inspection by Kazam Rangers, the company's trained technicians who assess electrical systems and recommend appropriate charging solutions.

As part of the awareness drive, Kazam has adopted a consumer-centric communication strategy by inviting real EV owners to participate in the campaign's official music video. The campaign also creatively reinterprets the traditional 'Nimbu Mirchi' symbol as a representation of an EV-ready home, using familiar cultural imagery to promote the importance of electrical safety and preparedness before installing a home charging point.

The initiative comes at a time when India's electric mobility ecosystem is expanding rapidly, supported by government policies, increasing model availability, and growing investments in charging infrastructure. While public charging networks continue to expand across highways, cities, and commercial locations, residential charging remains the most convenient and cost-effective option for the majority of private EV owners. Industry experts have consistently emphasised that professionally installed dedicated home chargers not only improve charging efficiency but also minimise risks associated with overheating, electrical faults, and equipment damage.

By combining research-backed insights with practical digital tools and consumer education, the 'EV-Ready Ghar' campaign seeks to improve awareness of safe charging practices and encourage households to upgrade their electrical infrastructure where necessary. The initiative is expected to support India's broader transition towards electric mobility by enhancing consumer confidence, improving charging safety standards, and helping create a stronger foundation for the country's rapidly growing EV ecosystem.
