Kerala Eyes USD 14 Billion in Investment Commitments at WEF 2026, Renewables in Focus

Jan 26, 2026

Kerala is working to secure investment commitments exceeding USD 14 billion at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, scheduled from January 19 to 23, with renewable energy and other knowledge-based sectors expected to dominate the proposed deals.

According to reports, the state government has held discussions with more than 60 investors and prospective partners during the summit. Industries Minister P. Rajeev stated that this marks a strategic shift for Kerala, which in earlier editions of the forum concentrated largely on promoting its investment potential rather than obtaining firm commitments.

This year, the emphasis has been placed on finalising Expressions of Undertaking (EOUs), with agreements collectively valued at over USD 14 billion anticipated during the event. A large portion of these proposals is linked to renewable energy projects, along with investments in artificial intelligence, data centres, medical devices, electronics manufacturing, and wellness-related services.

The minister also highlighted that specialised teams have been formed to monitor and follow up on each EOU to ensure timely progress. As part of its long-term vision, Kerala is positioning itself as a preferred destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

The state has already entered into an EOU to develop GCC cities in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, supported by one of the world’s leading GCC service providers.

Referring to past outcomes, Rajeev noted that while the national average conversion rate of MoUs signed at global summits ranges between 10% and 15%, Kerala has managed to advance around 24% of its commitments to the construction phase within ten months. The state aims to further improve this performance.

Reports indicate that the EOUs discussed at Davos are expected to progress into formal memoranda of understanding following detailed assessments of the companies and investment proposals, paving the way for implementation.
