KPI Green Energy Commissions 200 MW Solar Project for Coal India at Gujarat’s Khavda Renewable Energy Park

KPI Green Energy has commissioned 200 MW (AC) / 269 MW (DC) of solar power capacity for Coal India Limited (CIL) as part of a larger 300 MW (AC) / 405 MW (DC) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project being developed at GIPCL's Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat. The newly commissioned capacity has been certified by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), marking another significant milestone in the company's utility-scale renewable energy portfolio.

The project forms part of Coal India's broader clean energy diversification strategy, under which the state-owned mining company is investing in large-scale renewable energy assets to reduce its carbon footprint and support India's energy transition. Developed on an EPC basis by KPI Green Energy, the remaining capacity of the project is expected to be commissioned in subsequent phases, further strengthening renewable energy generation at the Khavda renewable energy zone.

Located in Gujarat's Kutch district, Khavda Renewable Energy Park is emerging as one of the world's largest integrated renewable energy parks. The region offers abundant solar irradiation, favourable land availability, and access to high-capacity transmission infrastructure, making it a strategic hub for utility-scale solar and wind projects. The park is expected to play a crucial role in supporting India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based installed electricity capacity by 2030 while facilitating large-scale renewable power evacuation through the national grid.

The latest commissioning further expands KPI Green Energy's presence in the Khavda region and reinforces its execution capabilities in delivering large-scale solar infrastructure. The company has outlined an ambitious roadmap to build a 10 GW clean energy portfolio by 2030, with ongoing investments across utility-scale solar, hybrid renewable energy projects, and captive green power solutions.

Beyond Gujarat, KPI Green Energy has also achieved another important milestone in Maharashtra by receiving charging permission from the Chief Electrical Inspector, Nagpur, for a 100 MW (AC) / 128 MW (DC) ground-mounted solar photovoltaic project at Ramthi in Nagpur district. The project is being executed on a turnkey EPC basis for the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO), enabling the company to move closer to project energisation and commercial operations.

These developments highlight the growing momentum in India's utility-scale solar sector, where public sector enterprises and private developers are increasingly collaborating to accelerate renewable energy deployment. As demand for clean electricity continues to rise, large EPC projects such as those being executed by KPI Green Energy are expected to play a vital role in expanding generation capacity, strengthening grid reliability, and advancing the country's long-term decarbonisation and energy security objectives.
