KPI Green Energy Secures Rs 128.49 Crore NTPC Order for Plasma Gasification–Based Green Hydrogen Project

Dec 26, 2025

KPI Green Energy has received Notifications of Award worth approximately Rs 128.49 crore from NTPC for setting up a plasma gasification–based green hydrogen facility at NTPC’s NETRA campus in Greater Noida, marking its entry into the green hydrogen segment.

KPI Green Energy, a KP Group company, announced that it has been awarded three Notifications of Award (NOAs) from NTPC for the development of a plasma gasification–based green hydrogen generation project using municipal solid waste (MSW), refuse-derived fuel (RDF), and agricultural waste at NTPC’s NETRA facility in Greater Noida.

The project involves the installation of a 1 tonne-per-day (TPD) green hydrogen generation plant based on plasma-induced radiant energy gasification technology. According to the company’s regulatory filing, this represents KPI Green Energy’s first foray into the green hydrogen space and is among the early deployments of plasma gasification-based hydrogen projects in India. The initiative also marks a strategic diversification beyond the company’s core solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy portfolio.

Plasma gasification is an advanced waste-to-energy process that converts MSW, RDF, and agri-waste into synthesis gas, which can then be processed to produce green hydrogen. The technology supports energy recovery while reducing landfill dependence and mitigating environmental impact.

The company stated that the project underscores its intent to expand into emerging clean energy technologies such as waste-to-energy and green hydrogen, while leveraging its integrated engineering, manufacturing, and execution capabilities.

The scope of work under the contract includes design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply of plant and equipment along with mandatory spares on an ex-works (India) basis. It also covers transportation, erection, installation, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning—excluding civil and structural steel works—along with safety-related components. Additionally, KPI Green Energy will undertake operation and maintenance of the facility for a period of two years.
