Feb 12, 2026

Lot-1 package covers major civil and hydro-mechanical works; bid submission deadline set for March 20, 2026

State-run hydropower company NHPC has floated a Rs5,129.03 crore tender for major civil and hydro-mechanical works at its 1,856 MW Sawalkot hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir. The tender marks a key step in advancing construction of the project.

Issued on February 5, 2026, the tender invites online bids under domestic competitive bidding for the Lot-1 package. The scope includes construction of diversion tunnels, coffer dams, access tunnels, dam works, associated roads, and hydro-mechanical installations. The estimated completion timeline for the package is 108 months.

Bidding will follow a two-part technical and financial evaluation process, along with an electronic reverse auction to determine final pricing. The deadline for online bid submission is March 20, 2026, and techno-commercial bids will be opened on March 24.

The Lot-1 package covers diversion tunnel construction adits, the Mandiyal Nalla diversion tunnel, coffer dykes and platforms, left and right bank access tunnels, spiral works tunnels, dam structures, and hydro-mechanical works required for water control and flow regulation.

NHPC has specified qualification criteria requiring bidders to demonstrate experience in large dam construction, long tunnel excavation, and installation of heavy hydro-mechanical gates. Companies must have an average annual turnover of at least Rs604 crore over the past two years and working capital of not less than Rs95 crore.

The Sawalkot project is located in Ramban district on the Chenab river and forms part of hydro development efforts in the Himalayan region.
