NLC India and Gujarat Government Ink MoU for Rs 25,000 Crore Renewable Energy Expansion

Jan 14, 2026

NLC India Ltd. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to explore the development of large-scale renewable energy projects in the state, involving a potential investment of around Rs25,000 crore.

The MoU was exchanged during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Saurashtra and Kutch region, held on January 12, 2026, in Rajkot. The agreement is non-binding and outlines plans to develop a mix of solar, wind, hybrid renewable, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across Gujarat.

The agreement was signed by Devendra Pratap Singh, Executive Director (Projects & Business Development) and CEO of NLC India Renewables, and Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat. The exchange took place in the presence of Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, along with Gujarat ministers Jitubhai Vaghani, Rushikesh Patel, and Kaushikbhai Vekariya.

The proposed renewable energy projects will be implemented through NLC India Renewables Ltd. (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India. According to the company, the collaboration supports its Corporate Plan to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, while reinforcing its focus on sustainability, energy security, and decarbonisation.

As part of the understanding, the Government of Gujarat will extend support to NLC India and NIRL by facilitating statutory approvals, regulatory clearances, registrations, and other required permissions, in line with existing state policies, to enable the time-bound execution of the proposed projects.
