Northern Railways Invites Bids for 2 MW Solar Installations in Punjab
Apr 02, 2026
Northern Railways has issued a tender for the development of 2,150 kW of grid-connected solar power projects across station and service buildings in the Firozpur division of Punjab. The initiative will be implemented under a net metering framework, supporting the railways’ push toward cleaner energy adoption.
The total estimated value of the tender is approximately Rs 11.05 crore, with bidders required to submit their proposals by April 20, 2026. An earnest money deposit (EMD) of Rs 22.1 lakh has also been specified as part of the bidding requirements.
The scope of work includes the complete execution of the solar projects—covering supply, installation, testing, and commissioning. It also involves deploying 15 net meters of varying capacities along with associated equipment such as meter sets and boxes. Additionally, the selected contractor will be responsible for handling all regulatory charges, including registration, feasibility, and testing fees.
Beyond installation, bidders must provide both low- and high-tension current transformers at the project sites. The entire project is to be completed within a six-month timeframe, reflecting a relatively short execution window.
Eligibility criteria require bidders to hold a valid electrical contractor license. They must also demonstrate prior experience in executing solar or solar-hybrid projects of at least 50 kW within the past seven years. Depending on project size, bidders must have completed multiple works meeting defined cost thresholds. Financially, companies must show an average annual turnover of at least Rs 11.05 crore.
This tender follows a similar initiative earlier this year, when Northern Railways’ Ambala Division invited bids for 1 MW of solar capacity in Haryana, highlighting a broader effort to integrate renewable energy across railway infrastructure.
