NTPC Green Energy and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Form JV to Develop 2 GW Renewable Projects
Dec 07, 2025
NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has created a new joint venture with the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company (CSPGCL) to develop 2 GW of renewable energy capacity in the state. In the newly incorporated entity, Chhattisgarh NTPC Green Energy, NGEL will hold a 74% stake while CSPGCL will hold 26%, according to a regulatory filing.
The JV aims to develop, operate, and maintain renewable energy parks — including Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs) — across Chhattisgarh and other identified locations. This includes solar, wind, hybrid projects, and floating solar installations on suitable reservoirs. The total planned investment is around Rs 10,000 crore, helping CSPGCL meet its Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) and supporting the state DISCOM in meeting its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO).
This partnership stems from the agreement signed in March 2025, which later received approval from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM). It also forms part of NTPC Group’s broader commitments made at the Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025, where MoUs worth Rs 96,000 crore were signed for nuclear, pumped hydro, and renewable energy development.
NTPC Green Energy has been accelerating its renewable expansion nationwide. Recent collaborations include agreements with Goa Energy Development Agency to develop 300 MW of RE capacity, a JV with MAHAPREIT for up to 10 GW of renewable parks, and major MoUs with Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh for large-scale solar, wind, pumped hydro, and green hydrogen projects.
