Power Minister Manohar Lal Reviews NHPC Hydroelectric Projects in Jammu and Kashmir

Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal reviewed the progress of key NHPC hydroelectric projects during a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening renewable energy infrastructure in the Union Territory.
The review covered major projects being developed by NHPC across Reasi, Ramban, and Kishtwar districts.
Accompanied by Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal, the Minister visited NHPC’s Salal Power Project in Reasi district, where he assessed ongoing works and directed the company to accelerate sediment removal operations in the reservoir.
The desilting activity is aimed at clearing accumulated silt to improve reservoir capacity and ensure optimal utilisation of water resources for power generation.
NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupendra Gupta briefed the Minister on the status of various hydroelectric projects under implementation in Jammu and Kashmir, outlining progress and key execution challenges.
During the visit to the Salal Power Station, Manohar Lal also took part in a plantation drive within the project ?????, highlighting the government’s emphasis on environmental conservation alongside infrastructure development.
The Minister held discussions with officials from the local administration and concerned departments to review coordination mechanisms and ensure timely execution of project activities.
He stressed the importance of streamlined approvals and on-ground collaboration to keep projects on schedule.
While travelling to Kishtwar, Manohar Lal conducted an aerial inspection of the 1,856 MW Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project to assess construction progress.
At Kishtwar, he visited the Ratle Hydroelectric Project, where he laid the foundation stone for dam concreting works and urged the project team to adhere to stipulated timelines for completion.
