Power Ministry Extends FY25 RCO Compliance Deadline to May 31, 2026

Apr 20, 2026

The government has granted additional time for obligated entities to submit renewable energy consumption data, easing compliance timelines without altering targets.

The Ministry of Power has extended the deadline for submitting Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) compliance details for the financial year 2024–25 to May 31, 2026. The move provides extra time for entities to complete reporting and meet regulatory requirements.

The extension follows requests from industry stakeholders who cited challenges in adhering to the earlier timeline. These concerns were routed through the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation and compliance of RCO norms.

The revised deadline applies to all obligated entities, including power distribution companies, open access consumers, and captive power producers. These entities are required to submit verified data detailing their renewable energy consumption under the RCO framework.

The RCO mechanism mandates that large electricity consumers source a specified portion of their energy from non-fossil fuel sources. It plays a crucial role in driving renewable energy adoption across industrial and commercial sectors in India.

This is one of multiple extensions granted during the initial phase of RCO implementation, reflecting ongoing challenges related to data collection and verification. However, the compliance targets remain unchanged, and entities are expected to complete the necessary reporting and certification within the updated deadline.
