POWERCON’s CORE Academy and YCMOU Introduce Seven RE Courses to Train 20,000 Students by 2026
Nov 17, 2025
As India accelerates toward its target of 500 GW non-fossil power capacity by 2030—an effort expected to create more than 1.8 million new renewable energy jobs—POWERCON Group’s Centre of Renewable Energy (CORE) Academy has unveiled seven specialised courses at Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), one of the world’s largest open-learning institutions.
The initiative aims to equip 20,000 students with sector-ready skills by 2026, helping bridge the growing talent gap in the country’s rapidly expanding clean energy ecosystem.
The newly launched Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma programmes cover key RE disciplines, including wind energy, solar PV design and operations, battery storage, pumped hydro systems, and electrical safety. Developed by POWERCON’s industry practitioners, the curriculum blends academic fundamentals with hands-on, application-focused training, preparing graduates to enter the workforce as job-ready “RE Commandos.”
Aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the courses are designed for a diverse audience—students, working professionals, and individuals seeking specialised certification in renewable energy technologies. Programme durations range from three months to a year, offering flexibility along with structured learning.
Highlighting the motivation behind the initiative, Praveen Kakulte, CEO of The POWERCON Group, said, “We identified a major disconnect between industry requirements and traditional training formats. CORE Academy was created to deliver programmes built by practising engineers. Today, that approach is shaping professionals who are not only technically competent but also adaptable to the rapidly evolving global RE landscape.”
So far, CORE Academy has trained more than 6,000 learners, supporting placements across 25 prominent renewable energy companies. The collaboration with YCMOU significantly scales up its outreach, bringing high-quality RE education to a broader audience and helping strengthen India’s green workforce for the future.
