Powertrac Group Wins 50 MW Distributed Renewable Energy Project Under Gujarat's DREBP Scheme
Jul 08, 2026
Gujarat-based renewable energy developer and EPC company Powertrac Group has secured a 50 MW distributed renewable energy project from Purshotam Profiles under the Distributed Renewable Energy Bilateral Purchase (DREBP) Scheme in association with Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL). The project marks another milestone in the company's expanding presence in India's distributed clean energy sector and supports Gujarat's efforts to accelerate decentralized renewable power generation.
The project will be executed on a project development basis, with Powertrac Group responsible for delivering the entire project lifecycle. Its scope includes obtaining grid connectivity approvals, securing capacity reservation, preparing documentation, and facilitating the execution of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The company will also undertake land identification, acquisition support, due diligence, and overall project development activities to ensure timely implementation.
In addition to project development, Powertrac Group will oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the associated transmission infrastructure. This includes conducting technical surveys, designing the evacuation system, acquiring Right of Way (RoW), and constructing the transmission line required to connect the renewable energy project to the grid.
The company will also manage statutory approvals and coordinate with key government and power sector agencies, including the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government (CEIG), Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO), State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC), Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL), the Public Works Department (PWD), the Forest Department, and other regulatory authorities. The project scope further includes testing, commissioning, regulatory compliance, commercial operations, and comprehensive project management until successful completion.
The DREBP framework has emerged as an important mechanism for enabling direct procurement of renewable energy through bilateral agreements while utilizing the state's electricity distribution network. Such projects help industries secure long-term access to clean electricity, reduce dependence on conventional power sources, and contribute to India's broader decarbonization objectives. Gujarat continues to be one of the country's leading renewable energy states, supported by strong transmission infrastructure, industry-friendly policies, and growing demand for green power from commercial and industrial consumers.
Powertrac Group has outlined an ambitious growth strategy, targeting 1 GW (1,000 MW) of operational independent power producer (IPP) capacity by 2030. The company has been expanding beyond project development into advanced energy storage solutions as part of its long-term clean energy portfolio.
Earlier this year, Powertrac Group announced plans to invest INR 600 crore in establishing a 1,000 MWh per annum containerised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in India. The proposed plant is expected to strengthen domestic energy storage manufacturing capabilities and complement the country's increasing deployment of renewable energy projects, where battery storage is becoming essential for improving grid reliability and integrating variable solar and wind generation.
The newly awarded 50 MW project further reinforces Powertrac Group's position as an integrated renewable energy developer capable of delivering large-scale distributed energy projects while supporting Gujarat's transition toward a cleaner, more resilient, and sustainable electricity system.
