ReNew to Set Up India’s First 6 GW Ingot–Wafer Manufacturing Plant in Andhra Pradesh
Dec 06, 2025
ReNew will invest Rs 3,990 crore to build India’s first 6 GW ingot–wafer facility in Andhra Pradesh, boosting domestic solar manufacturing and creating 1,200 jobs.
ReNew Photovoltaics, a subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC, is set to establish a greenfield 6 GW solar ingot–wafer manufacturing plant at Rambilli in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 3,990 crore.
The project will mark India’s first commercial-scale integrated ingot–wafer unit, producing the essential components required for solar cells and modules. The proposal has been approved by the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and is expected to receive final clearance from the Cabinet next week. The MoU was signed during last month’s Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.
Aligned with India's target of reaching 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030, the project aims to reduce the country’s dependence on imported solar components, especially from China. It falls under the Government of India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar manufacturing.
Spread across 130–140 acres allocated for immediate handover, the plant is slated for completion by March 2026, with commercial operations expected to start by January 2028. The facility will create approximately 1,200 high-skilled and semi-skilled jobs and will require 95 MW of uninterrupted power supply along with 10 MLD of water.
With this investment, the Anakapalli–Visakhapatnam region is rapidly emerging as a key hub for solar and clean-energy technology manufacturing. The Andhra Pradesh government noted that the state continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for large-scale renewable energy investments.
