SECI Receives Government Orders for 1,200 MWh BESS and 50 MW Hybrid Renewable Project in Andhra Pradesh

Nov 18, 2025

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has formally issued Government Orders (GOs) to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for two major renewable energy initiatives — a 1,200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Nandyala and a 50 MW hybrid solar project. The approvals mark a significant push toward strengthening the state's renewable energy and grid stability roadmap.

The orders were handed over during the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, organized by DPIIT, the state government, and CII. The ceremony, attended by top dignitaries including Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, underscored the state’s strong commitment to clean energy expansion.

SECI Director (PS) Sivakumar V. Vepakomma received the GOs on behalf of the corporation.

Project Background and Approvals

Earlier, on January 23, 2025, the Ministry of Power designated SECI as the implementing agency for the 1,200 MWh BESS project under Market-Based Operations. SECI’s Board Chairman Santosh Kumar Sarangi approved the project on October 22, 2025, with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) closely tracking its progress.

Both the BESS and hybrid solar projects will be executed under the CAPEX Model, with SECI taking full responsibility for the investment and development.

Significance for Andhra Pradesh and India

SECI described the development as a major milestone in advancing large-scale energy storage and integrating higher levels of renewable energy into the grid. The BESS project is expected to play a key role in:

• Improving grid reliability

• Managing renewable intermittency

• Enhancing energy security

• Enabling smoother adoption of solar and wind power

The hybrid solar project will further strengthen the state's renewable generation mix.

With these approvals, Andhra Pradesh advances its position as a leading renewable energy hub and reinforces India’s broader transition toward a cleaner, more resilient power system.
