Suzlon Reshuffles Leadership to Drive Expansion and Broaden Clean Energy Portfolio
Feb 27, 2026
Mumbai-based wind turbine major Suzlon Energy has announced a leadership restructuring aimed at accelerating growth and expanding beyond its core wind business. Long-serving Chief Executive Officer J.P. Chalasani will transition to a broader strategic role, while Ajay Kapur, formerly Managing Director of Adani Cements, has been appointed Group CEO.
Chalasani will join a newly constituted Group Executive Council tasked with steering diversification initiatives. The council will include Chairman Vinod Tanti and Executive Vice Chairman Girish Tanti, and will focus on expanding Suzlon’s presence across emerging renewable energy segments.
Kapur, who superannuated from the Adani Group at the end of January, will concentrate on scaling Suzlon’s core wind operations. The management rejig comes as the company reports strong financial momentum. Suzlon’s core business doubled between FY24 and FY25, and it has projected 60% growth across key performance indicators for FY26. The company has guided for wind turbine installations of 2.5 GW in FY26, up from 1.55 GW in FY25.
In the first nine months of FY26, Suzlon installed 1.6 GW of wind capacity and surpassed its entire FY25 revenue and EBITDA figures. It reported revenue of Rs 11,211 crore and EBITDA of Rs 2,058 crore during the period. The company now holds net cash of Rs 11,556 crore, marking a turnaround after years of financial stress and high debt.
With policy support driving at least 10 GW of annual wind tenders and rising demand for round-the-clock renewable power from commercial and industrial consumers, Suzlon is positioning itself to capitalise on sectoral tailwinds. Analysts have noted that as a market leader in wind turbine manufacturing, the company stands to benefit significantly from this demand uptick.
Beyond manufacturing and turbine supply, Suzlon is planning to expand into project development. This includes land acquisition, regulatory clearances, grid connectivity, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and long-term asset servicing. The company is also exploring opportunities in solar power and battery energy storage systems (BESS), aiming to offer integrated solutions that combine wind, solar, and storage.
While Suzlon is evaluating whether to directly undertake EPC for solar and BESS projects or outsource parts of the work, it intends to retain control over project development across technologies. The broader strategy is to evolve into a comprehensive renewable energy solutions provider, managing the full value chain from concept to lifetime operations and maintenance.
