Suzlon Wins 201.6 MW Wind EPC Order from Waaree Group for First Utility-Scale Wind Project in Andhra Pradesh

Suzlon Group has secured a 201.6 MW wind energy order from Waaree Forever Energies Pvt. Ltd. (WFEPL), the independent power producer (IPP) arm of the Waaree Group, for a project in Andhra Pradesh. The project marks Waaree Group's entry into utility-scale wind power generation and will be executed under Suzlon's Developer Company (DevCo) model, highlighting the growing demand for integrated renewable energy project development and execution services in India.

As part of the contract, Suzlon will supply and install 64 units of its S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, delivering a combined installed capacity of 201.6 MW. The S144 turbine is designed for India's low- to medium-wind-speed sites and features a large rotor diameter that enables higher energy generation and improved project economics, making it one of Suzlon's flagship turbines for utility-scale wind installations.

Beyond turbine supply, Suzlon will provide a comprehensive Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) solution covering land acquisition, project development, balance of plant (BoP), installation, commissioning and long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) services. The project will be executed under the company's DevCo model, an integrated approach that allows developers to reduce execution risks by relying on a single partner for the complete project lifecycle—from site development to long-term asset management.

The order represents a strategic milestone for both companies. While Suzlon continues to strengthen its position as one of India's leading wind energy solutions providers, the project marks Waaree Group's expansion beyond its well-established solar manufacturing and EPC businesses into wind power generation. The move reflects a broader industry trend in which renewable energy companies are building diversified portfolios spanning solar, wind and hybrid projects to meet India's rapidly growing clean energy demand.

India's wind energy sector is witnessing renewed momentum as developers increasingly pursue wind, solar and hybrid projects supported by government initiatives and competitive bidding by agencies such as the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and state utilities. The expansion of transmission infrastructure through the Green Energy Corridor programme and rising demand for firm and dispatchable renewable power are also driving new investments in wind generation.

Integrated execution models such as Suzlon's DevCo approach are gaining prominence as renewable energy projects become larger and more complex. By combining project development, EPC execution and lifecycle maintenance under a single framework, developers can streamline implementation timelines, optimise costs and improve project reliability—factors that are becoming increasingly important as India accelerates renewable capacity additions.

The project also aligns with India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based installed electricity capacity by 2030, with wind power expected to play a crucial role alongside solar energy in diversifying the country's renewable energy mix. As independent power producers continue expanding investments in utility-scale renewable assets, partnerships between technology providers and clean energy developers are expected to support faster deployment of high-quality projects while strengthening India's domestic renewable energy ecosystem.
