Suzuki Commissions 1.5 TPD Biogas Facility in Gujarat’s Banaskantha Region

Second biogas plant to process 100 tonnes of cattle waste daily for CNG fuel production. Suzuki Motor Corporation, together with its Indian subsidiary Suzuki R&D Center India (SRDI), has commissioned a 1.5-tonne-per-day biogas plant at Bhukhala in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, strengthening the company’s push towards renewable and circular energy solutions in India.
The newly operational Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant, spread over 27,000 square metres, is designed to process 100 tonnes of cow dung per day, generating enough biogas to fuel approximately 850 CNG vehicles daily, according to the company.
This facility marks Suzuki’s second biogas project in India, following the commissioning of the Agthala biogas plant in December 2025. The plant will supply compressed biogas (CBG) for use in CNG vehicles, while the residual slurry from the process will be converted into organic fertiliser, supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
Key dignitaries attend inauguration
The inauguration ceremony, held earlier this month, was attended by Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy and Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, and Kenichiro Toyofuku, Managing Officer and Executive General Manager, Biogas Operations, Suzuki.
Suzuki highlighted that biogas, being a carbon-neutral fuel, can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions when used in CNG vehicles, which currently account for around 20% of India’s passenger vehicle market. The company also noted that biogas projects contribute to greater energy self-reliance, employment generation, and enhanced rural incomes, particularly through the organised procurement of cattle waste.
In September 2023, Suzuki, through SRDI, signed a tripartite agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Banas Dairy to develop five biogas plants in India. With the Agthala and Bhukhala plants now operational, the remaining facilities are expected to be developed in phases.
