Tata Power Completes Key EHV Transmission Network in Uttar Pradesh with Final 400 kV Line Commissioning

Mar 26, 2026

Tata Power has successfully commissioned the 400 kV Tanda–Gonda and Gonda–Basti double-circuit transmission lines in Uttar Pradesh, marking the completion of all Extra High Voltage (EHV) infrastructure under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited (SEUPPTCL) project. The newly operational lines span 154 circuit kilometres and represent the final phase of the broader transmission network rollout.

With this milestone, the SEUPPTCL network now includes three 765 kV transmission lines covering 951 circuit kilometres, fourteen 400 kV lines spanning 566 circuit kilometres, and three 765/400 kV substations with a combined transformation capacity of 3,460 MVA. The infrastructure is designed to strengthen the state’s power evacuation capabilities and improve overall grid reliability.

The commissioning of major assets—including the 765 kV Mainpuri–Bara and Mainpuri–Unnao single-circuit lines, along with the newly completed 400 kV corridors—will enable the efficient evacuation of more than 4,000 MW of thermal power generated within the state. This is expected to support rising electricity demand while enhancing long-term energy security and system stability.

Execution of the project involved extensive engineering efforts, including the installation of over 45,000 metric tonnes of tower steel, stringing of thousands of kilometres of conductors, and the completion of numerous complex crossings such as railway lines, highways, pipelines, and rivers. The work was carried out in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards, including construction across designated forest areas.

SEUPPTCL operates under Resurgent Power Ventures, a joint venture led by Tata Power in partnership with ICICI Bank and international investors. The project was part of a broader initiative to revive stressed assets in the power transmission sector.

Following the completion of these transmission corridors, Tata Power’s total operational network has expanded significantly, reinforcing its role in strengthening India’s high-voltage grid infrastructure. The company continues to scale up its transmission portfolio, with additional capacity currently under development to support the country’s growing energy needs.
