Tata Power Energizes Northern Grid with 765 kV Mainpuri-Bara and Mainpuri-Unnao Lines

Feb 02, 2026

Uttar Pradesh, January 30, 2026: Tata Power has successfully commissioned two major 765 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission corridors in Uttar Pradesh, a milestone that strengthens the northern region’s power infrastructure and enhances grid reliability across the state.

The Mainpuri-Bara line, extending 380 circuit kilometres, and the Mainpuri-Unnao line, spanning 194 circuit kilometres, have been developed under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited (SEUPPTCL) project. Together, these corridors form a critical backbone for uninterrupted power flow within Uttar Pradesh and across the wider Northern Grid.

Acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited, a joint venture led by Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and global investors, the project resolves previously stressed transmission assets and now enables the evacuation of over 3,000 MW of thermal power generated within the state. This development is expected to significantly improve grid stability and bolster Uttar Pradesh’s long-term energy security.

The construction of these high-capacity corridors involved significant engineering and logistical efforts, including the use of over 42,000 metric tonnes of tower steel, stringing of 6,900 kilometres of conductors, and the completion of more than 100 major crossings such as railway lines, rivers, and existing transmission paths. The lines also pass through forested regions, built with strict adherence to environmental and regulatory norms.

With these additions, Tata Power now operates 5,312 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, with 1,997 circuit kilometres under construction, highlighting the company’s expanding role in modernising India’s high-voltage transmission network—a key enabler of economic growth and energy reliability.
