Tata Power to Set Up India’s Largest 10 GW Ingot and Wafer Manufacturing Unit in Andhra Pradesh
Jan 12, 2026
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced plans to invest Rs 6,675 crore in establishing a 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s solar and semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
The proposed greenfield project is set to become the largest ingot and wafer production facility in the country, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s growing role as a major destination for advanced solar manufacturing investments.
The manufacturing unit will be developed within the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, where the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 200 acres of land. The first phase of the project will utilize 120 acres, while the remaining 80 acres have been earmarked for future capacity expansion.
The facility will produce ingots and wafers, which are essential inputs for solar cells, solar modules, and semiconductor applications. The project aligns closely with the central government’s initiatives to promote domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports for strategically critical components.
In line with its sustainability objectives, TPREL will also install a 200 MW captive renewable power plant to supply clean energy to the manufacturing operations.
Welcoming the investment, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh described the project as a landmark development for the state, stating that it reflects strong confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s stable policies, robust infrastructure, and commitment to clean energy manufacturing.
