Tripura Floats EOI for 50 MW/200 MWh Standalone Battery Storage Systems
Feb 27, 2026
The Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) has issued an expression of interest (EOI) to develop 50 MW/200 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) at suitable 33/11 kV substations across Tripura.
The proposed storage capacity is aimed at facilitating renewable energy integration, improving grid reliability, and addressing rising peak demand in the state. Tripura’s peak load has already reached 378 MW and is projected to increase to 690 MW by 2030, necessitating additional flexibility resources.
The projects will be awarded for a tenure of either 12 or 15 years. Interested bidders must submit their proposals by March 9, 2026, with bid opening scheduled for March 13.
Under the tender conditions, the BESS must provide a maximum discharge duration of four hours during non-solar peak periods, with a minimum continuous discharge capability of one hour. Each individual battery unit is required to have a capacity of 5 MW/20 MWh.
Charging of the storage systems will take place during solar generation hours. Successful bidders may either arrange charging power independently or procure it from TSECL. Participants are also required to propose suitable business models, implementation frameworks, and deployment strategies for operating BESS installations at the 33 kV voltage level.
