Vedanta Aluminium Expands Low-Carbon Portfolio with Restora Production at BALCO
Nov 08, 2025
Vedanta Aluminium has strengthened its commitment to sustainable manufacturing with the launch of Restora production at its Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. The development marks a major step forward in the company’s journey toward achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Manufactured using renewable energy, Restora features a verified GHG emission intensity below four tonnes of CO? equivalent per tonne of aluminium, meeting global low-carbon benchmarks. This milestone positions Vedanta Aluminium as a key contributor to decarbonised global supply chains and underscores BALCO’s alignment with the group’s broader sustainability objectives.
Vedanta Aluminium first introduced Restora at its Jharsuguda smelter in 2022, where it also produces Restora Ultra—an ultra-low carbon variant made from recovered aluminium. With Restora now produced at BALCO, the company has expanded its sustainable product footprint across India.
Currently, BALCO offers Restora ingots, with plans to diversify the product range in response to evolving industry needs. The initiative supports the rising demand for sustainable materials in India and global markets, reinforcing Vedanta Aluminium’s leadership in the low-carbon manufacturing space.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Restora has already set new standards in low-carbon aluminium production. Its introduction at BALCO marks another significant stride in expanding our sustainable aluminium portfolio. This move strengthens India’s position as a hub for climate-conscious industrial growth.”
Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of BALCO, added, “Targeted at sectors such as automotive, construction, electricals, packaging, and renewable energy, Restora enables our customers to develop greener value chains and transition to responsible manufacturing. While we begin with ingots, we are fully equipped to introduce value-added Restora products to meet evolving market needs.”
The expansion of Restora production is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions across its entire value chain. Through efficiency improvements and clean energy adoption, the company has already achieved an 8.96% reduction in GHG intensity since FY21.
Recognising aluminium’s vital role in enabling clean energy technologies and sustainable infrastructure, Vedanta Aluminium has established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to drive innovation across sectors such as electric mobility, renewable energy, infrastructure, and aerospace. With Restora, the company continues to deliver aluminium that meets the needs of a climate-conscious world and reinforces India’s leadership in sustainable industrial transformation.
