VOC Port Authority and CGS Energy Sign Rs 5,000 Crore Pact for 300 TPD Green Ammonia Plant in Tuticorin

Nov 04, 2025

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), Tuticorin, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 5,000 crore with CGS Energy to establish a 300 tonnes-per-day (TPD) green ammonia facility.

The MoU was signed during India Maritime Week 2025 in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, marking a major milestone in India’s pursuit of sustainable maritime growth.

This collaboration aims to accelerate the nation’s clean energy transition by developing low-carbon infrastructure, improving logistics efficiency, and promoting green port initiatives aligned with India’s net-zero and maritime growth vision.

Leveraging its natural deep-water harbour, strong multimodal connectivity, and rising trade potential, VOC Port is strategically positioned to host this large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project. The initiative further strengthens the port’s focus on digitalisation, sustainability, and smart infrastructure.

The partnership highlights the growing synergy between renewable energy innovation and maritime development, paving the way for a more resilient, technology-driven, and decarbonised port ecosystem across India.
