Welspun New Energy, Kandla Port Partner to Develop Green Methanol Infrastructure

Nov 03, 2025

Welspun New Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, to establish green methanol infrastructure that will aid India’s maritime decarbonization and green shipping goals.

The agreement, finalized during India Maritime Week 2025, aims to develop facilities for producing and supplying green methanol — a cleaner, low-carbon alternative to conventional marine fuels.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority, and Kapil Maheshwari, Managing Director and CEO of Welspun New Energy. Maheshwari stated that the collaboration represents “a key step toward building India’s green maritime ecosystem” by integrating renewable energy with sustainable fuel solutions.

Welspun New Energy currently holds 20,000 acres in Gujarat to develop 5 GW of renewable energy capacity for producing green hydrogen and its derivatives. The company has also been allotted 200 acres at Deendayal Port for developing green fuel infrastructure, strengthening its role in India’s growing clean energy value chain.

The initiative is expected to play a vital role in advancing India’s green maritime transition and supporting global efforts toward sustainable shipping.
