Alpex Solar to Scale Up to 2.2 GW Solar Cell Capacity with G12R TOPCon Technology

Oct 30, 2025

Alpex Solar, a leading integrated solar manufacturer, has announced a major upgrade to its manufacturing roadmap — transitioning from phased PERC production to a 2.2 GW TOPCon solar cell line. The shift is designed to align the company’s operations with global efficiency benchmarks and match its 3.6 GW solar module capacity.

The company’s facility at Kosi Kotwan will now focus on producing G12R generation high-efficiency TOPCon cells, with a total additional project cost of around Rs 136 crore. This investment, covering both technology enhancement and expanded capacity, will be funded entirely through internal accruals, Alpex said in a statement.

The expansion will be implemented in two phases — the first 1.4 GW will become operational in Q1 FY26-27, followed by the remaining 800 MW within six months. Despite the technology transition, the company noted that the overall project timeline remains largely unchanged.

According to Ashwani Sehgal, Managing Director of Alpex Solar, the decision to move directly to TOPCon represents a bold strategic step.

“The solar industry is advancing at an extraordinary pace, and TOPCon technology is emerging as the new global benchmark. By pivoting straight to 2.2 GW of G12R TOPCon production, we’re ensuring Alpex remains at the forefront of innovation and long-term growth,” Sehgal said.

He added that the direct-to-TOPCon approach eliminates the need for future costly upgrades and minimizes factory downtime, securing sustained profitability and operational continuity.

Alpex Solar emphasized that this forward-looking transition positions the company among India’s first manufacturers to produce G12R TOPCon cells. The move not only futureproofs its manufacturing base but also aligns with the upcoming Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List II mandate, set to take effect in June 2026.

By proactively adopting next-generation technology, Alpex Solar aims to meet accelerating global demand while solidifying its position as a key contributor to India’s solar manufacturing leadership.
