Crompton Greaves Wins Rs 4.45 Billion Order for 77 MW Rooftop Solar Systems in Andhra Pradesh

Oct 28, 2025

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals has received a major order to supply 77 MW of grid-connected residential rooftop solar systems across Andhra Pradesh, valued at approximately Rs4.45 billion (~$50.42 million).

Under the project, Crompton will deliver 2 kW solar systems to 40,000 households, supporting the state’s push toward cleaner and more affordable energy. The announcement follows an earlier Rs515.9 million (~$5.8 million) contract awarded to the company for supplying solar modules, inverters, and AC/DC distribution boxes for rooftop solar installations in Telangana.

Crompton said its entry into the rooftop solar segment aligns with its strategy to expand its total addressable market from the current Rs750 billion (~$8.4 billion) to Rs1 trillion (~$11.26 billion), with a long-term goal of reaching Rs2 trillion (~$22.5 billion).

The company estimates that the rooftop solar market in India represents an opportunity worth Rs200–250 billion (~$2.26–2.83 billion) and is projected to grow at over 20% annually. Crompton is diversifying its solar offerings across pumps, lighting solutions, and rooftop systems to capitalize on this rapid growth.

According to Mercom India’s Q2 2025 Rooftop Solar Market Report, India installed 2.8 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first half of 2025—a 158% year-over-year increase. The surge was driven largely by the clearance of delayed applications under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the commissioning of pending projects, and upgrades to the Surya Ghar portal.

In September 2025, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced the government’s approval of a utility-led model under the Surya Ghar program. By that time, around two million rooftop solar systems had been installed nationwide, with nearly half of the participating households receiving zero electricity bills, and many generating income by exporting surplus power.

Additionally, in April 2025, the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) waived application fees and net metering charges for domestic consumers installing rooftop systems of up to 10 kW under the Surya Ghar initiative, further encouraging adoption.
