ISGF and NISE Sign MoU to Strengthen Cooperation on Solar Integration and Grid Modernisation
Jan 16, 2026
The India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) and the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration on solar energy integration and power grid modernisation through technical cooperation, digital solutions, and capacity-building initiatives.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammad Rihan, Director General of NISE, and Reji Kumar Pillai, President of ISGF, formalising a strategic partnership that combines NISE’s research and technical capabilities with ISGF’s expertise in smart grids, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
Under the MoU, both organisations will jointly pursue a broad range of initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem. Key areas of cooperation include grid integration of solar power, deployment of smart inverters for distributed energy resources (DERs), solar forecasting and digitalisation, and the integration of rooftop solar systems with battery energy storage (RTS+BESS).
The collaboration will also focus on grid-interactive and solar-enabled buildings, solar and electric mobility integration, agrivoltaics, floating solar projects, as well as capacity building, training, and knowledge-sharing programmes.
According to ISGF, the partnership is expected to support the development of evidence-based solutions, wider adoption of technical standards, and enhanced institutional capacity, contributing to India’s long-term objectives for renewable energy expansion and power sector modernisation.
