Kalpa Power Secures 100 MWh BESS Manufacturing Capacity Through Strategic Partnership with Lineage Power

Energy management company Kalpa Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lineage Power, a subsidiary of Pace Digitek, to secure 100 MWh of priority Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing capacity. Announced during the 12th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2026, the agreement is expected to strengthen Kalpa Power's supply chain for battery storage projects and support the expansion of its WATTBANK energy storage platform across commercial, industrial and renewable energy applications.
Under the partnership, Lineage Power will provide Kalpa Power with priority access to 100 MWh of battery storage manufacturing capacity through a dedicated and ring-fenced production allocation. The arrangement is designed to reduce procurement uncertainty and enable faster project execution as demand for battery storage systems continues to rise across India. Reliable access to manufacturing capacity has become increasingly important as developers and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies compete for battery supplies amid the country's rapidly expanding energy storage market.
The secured capacity will be utilised to support deployments under WATTBANK, Kalpa Power's battery energy storage offering, which is designed to integrate with rooftop solar installations, open access renewable energy projects and hybrid power systems. By combining battery storage with renewable generation, the platform aims to help commercial and industrial consumers optimise electricity costs, improve energy reliability, reduce dependence on grid power during peak demand periods and maximise the utilisation of renewable energy.
Commenting on the partnership, Rounak Muthiyan, Founder and Director of Kalpa Power, said that India's energy transition is entering a phase where energy storage will become as critical as power generation itself. He noted that while progressive state policies—such as those introduced by Maharashtra—are encouraging the deployment of battery storage, timely execution will depend on secure access to manufacturing capacity. According to him, the agreement with Lineage Power strengthens the WATTBANK ecosystem and provides the confidence to accelerate deployments while pursuing the company's target of 500 MWh of installed battery energy storage capacity by 2028.
Kalpa Power currently has nearly 80 MWh of BESS projects under deployment across multiple locations. The newly secured manufacturing allocation is expected to improve project scheduling and delivery timelines, particularly for commercial and industrial customers, who typically require faster implementation than large utility-scale renewable energy projects.
Battery Energy Storage Systems are emerging as a critical component of India's evolving electricity infrastructure. They enable surplus electricity generated from solar and wind projects to be stored during periods of high generation and discharged during peak demand, helping stabilise the grid, improve renewable energy utilisation and reduce dependence on conventional peaking power plants. As renewable energy capacity continues to grow, storage solutions are expected to play an increasingly important role in ensuring reliable and flexible power supply.
India's battery storage sector is witnessing rapid expansion, driven by supportive government policies, falling battery costs and growing demand from utilities, industries and renewable energy developers. The country has introduced several initiatives, including viability gap funding for standalone battery energy storage projects, competitive BESS tenders by central agencies and policy measures encouraging storage integration with renewable energy projects. States are also beginning to incorporate energy storage into their long-term power planning to improve grid resilience and facilitate higher renewable energy penetration.
The partnership between Kalpa Power and Lineage Power reflects a broader industry trend towards securing domestic manufacturing capacity for advanced energy storage technologies. As India's battery manufacturing ecosystem continues to develop under initiatives promoting local production and clean energy supply chains, strategic collaborations such as this are expected to enhance supply assurance, accelerate project deployment and support the country's transition towards a more flexible, resilient and low-carbon power system.
