L&T Vyoma Begins Work on 40 MW Sustainable, AI-Optimised Data Centre in Navi Mumbai
Jan 23, 2026
L&T Vyoma, the digital infrastructure arm of Larsen & Toubro, has initiated construction of a 40 MW environmentally sustainable, AI-enabled data centre in Mahape, Navi Mumbai. The project marks a key milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen India’s future-ready digital infrastructure and meet the growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data localisation.
The ground-breaking ceremony has been completed for the facility, which forms part of a larger 100 MW data centre campus planned in Navi Mumbai. The development highlights L&T Vyoma’s focus on delivering high-performance and energy-efficient digital assets aligned with India’s long-term sustainability objectives.
India’s rapidly expanding digital economy—driven by increased cloud adoption, AI-heavy workloads, and stricter data sovereignty requirements—has accelerated the need for resilient and scalable infrastructure. L&T Vyoma is addressing this demand by developing advanced data centres designed for reliability, flexibility, and future growth.
The Navi Mumbai facility will support Build-to-Suit, Enterprise, and NeoCloud requirements, enabling high-density computing for AI-driven and mission-critical applications. It will incorporate Direct-to-Chip liquid cooling technology to efficiently manage heat generated by advanced AI workloads while improving overall energy efficiency and operational resilience.
Sustainability has been embedded into the project’s design, with the integration of renewable energy solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions and supporting India’s climate commitments.
Commenting on the development, R Shankar Raman, President, Whole-time Director and CFO of L&T, stated that digital infrastructure plays a vital role in national development. He added that L&T Vyoma is focused on creating a sovereign and sustainable digital ecosystem powered by world-class indigenous capabilities, with the Navi Mumbai facility reflecting the company’s vision for intelligent and AI-ready growth.
Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Head – Corporate Centre, L&T, noted Navi Mumbai’s emergence as a key digital hub and said the project establishes new standards for AI-ready infrastructure by balancing the high performance requirements of generative AI with low-carbon operations.
The Mahape data centre further strengthens L&T Vyoma’s colocation and build-to-suit portfolio and aligns with its three-pillar strategy, which includes hyperscaler-ready campuses for global cloud providers, AI-focused infrastructure for sovereign and enterprise use cases, and comprehensive colocation services supported by edge and disaster recovery solutions.
The project is a significant component of L&T Vyoma’s national expansion plans, which aim to develop over 200 MW of data centre capacity across major digital hubs, including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
