Ola Electric has started customer deliveries of its Ola Shakti residential battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 9.1 kWh, marking a key step in its foray into home energy solutions. The rollout has begun in Bengaluru and will be expanded to other parts of the country in the coming months.

The delivered model features a 6 kW/9.1 kWh configuration and is powered by the company’s 4680 Bharat Cells. Alongside the delivery announcement, Ola Electric confirmed that it has received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for the 3 kW/5.2 kWh variant of Ola Shakti. The larger 9.1 kWh version had already secured BIS approval earlier on January 15, 2026.

According to the company, the 5.2 kWh model successfully completed mandatory BIS testing in line with IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1:2017 standards. These evaluations covered a wide range of safety and environmental parameters, including protection against short circuits, overloads, electric shock, fire and thermal risks, environmental hazards, ingress protection, sonic pressure hazards, and wiring and connection safety.

Commenting on the milestone, an Ola Electric spokesperson said that the start of deliveries reflects the company’s commitment to making reliable and intelligent energy storage accessible to Indian households, farms, and businesses. The spokesperson added that Ola Shakti plays a strategic role in supporting India’s move toward energy independence through clean, decentralised power solutions.

Ola Shakti is positioned as a next-generation alternative to traditional lead-acid inverters and diesel generators, offering automotive-grade safety, high efficiency, and zero routine maintenance costs. The system is designed to ensure continuous power availability for homes and critical applications.

The company highlighted that Ola Shakti enables instantaneous power switching with 0 ms changeover time, operates within a wide input voltage range of 170V to 270V to safeguard appliances, and uses IP67-rated, spill-proof batteries tested for dust, water exposure, and monsoon conditions.
