Ola Electric has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its Shakti residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the 6 kW / 9.1 kWh configuration, powered by 4680-format Bharat Cells. The approval clears the way for the company to begin customer deliveries by the end of January 2026.

The certification has been issued under IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025, aligned with IEC 62040-1:2017 standards, following extensive testing at a BIS-authorised laboratory. With this milestone, Ola Electric has formally secured regulatory clearance for its residential energy storage offering.

Shakti is positioned as India’s first domestically designed, engineered, and manufactured residential BESS. As part of the certification process, the system underwent a comprehensive suite of electrical and mechanical safety evaluations. These included protection against short circuits and overloads, safeguards against fire and thermal risks, electric shock protection, environmental and mechanical stress testing, as well as acoustic pressure assessments.

An Ola Electric spokesperson stated that the BIS approval marks a significant step in the company’s energy storage roadmap. The spokesperson noted that the Shakti 9.1 kWh system is now ready for rollout, with the objective of providing reliable, affordable, and intelligent energy storage solutions for households, agricultural users, and commercial establishments, while contributing to India’s goals of energy self-reliance and decentralised clean power adoption.

Designed with automotive-grade safety standards, Ola Shakti offers high operational efficiency and zero running or maintenance costs. Unlike conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the system features instant, zero-millisecond power switchover and operates across a wide voltage range of 170 V to 270 V. The batteries are spill-proof and IP67-rated, ensuring resistance to dust, water ingress, and challenging monsoon conditions.

The Shakti system is offered in two configurations: a 3 kW / 5.2 kWh variant priced at Rs 1,49,999 and a 6 kW / 9.1 kWh variant priced at Rs 2,49,999. The system can support a range of household, agricultural, and business applications, including air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cooktops, water pumps, and communication equipment. It also supports fast charging and provides up to 1.5 hours of backup power at full load.

Ola Shakti is available for purchase through the company’s official website and Ola Electric’s company-owned retail outlets across India. Deliveries of the 9.1 kWh variant are scheduled to commence by the end of January 2026, while the 5.2 kWh version is expected to begin shipping from mid-February 2026.
