Rayzon Solar Partners with Caelux to Develop 5 GW of High-Efficiency Perovskite-Silicon Solar Module Capacity in India

Indian photovoltaic manufacturer Rayzon Solar has entered into a strategic five-year partnership with US-based Caelux Corporation to manufacture next-generation perovskite-silicon tandem solar modules in India. The collaboration will establish 5 GW of production capacity, bringing advanced tandem photovoltaic technology to the country's rapidly expanding solar manufacturing sector and supporting India's ambitions to become a global hub for high-efficiency solar equipment.

Under the agreement, Caelux will supply its proprietary energy-generating perovskite solar glass, which will be integrated with Rayzon Solar's TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cells to produce hybrid tandem modules capable of achieving conversion efficiencies of up to 28 percent. The technology enables modules to generate more electricity from the same installation area than conventional silicon-based panels, making it particularly attractive for utility-scale projects, commercial rooftops and space-constrained installations.

Unlike conventional solar modules, where the front glass serves only as a protective layer, Caelux's innovation incorporates a thin-film perovskite photovoltaic layer directly into the module glass. This additional layer captures portions of the solar spectrum that silicon cells cannot efficiently utilise, allowing both technologies to work together in a tandem configuration. The result is higher energy yield, improved power density and lower levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) over the system's operational life.

Rayzon Solar plans to integrate the technology into its 11.3 GW bifacial solar module manufacturing platform, operating from its ALMM-listed manufacturing facilities in Kim and Kosamba, Gujarat. The partnership aligns with the Government of India's Make in India initiative and broader efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing of advanced renewable energy technologies through policy support, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework.

Commenting on the collaboration, Chirag Nakrani, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Rayzon Solar, said the partnership reinforces the company's commitment to building globally competitive solar manufacturing capabilities in India while advancing the adoption of cutting-edge photovoltaic technologies. He noted that combining Rayzon's large-scale manufacturing expertise with Caelux's perovskite innovation will strengthen India's position in next-generation solar module production.

The two companies have already initiated early-stage deployment activities, with commercial-scale production expected to begin by 2028. Once commercialised, the hybrid modules are expected to qualify for India's government-supported utility-scale solar projects, enabling developers to deploy higher-efficiency modules in large renewable energy installations.

Scott Graybeal, Chief Executive Officer of Caelux Corporation, described India as a strategic market for the company's international expansion, citing the country's rapidly growing solar manufacturing ecosystem and strong policy support for domestic production. Amit Barve, Chief Executive Officer of Rayzon Solar, added that the collaboration will enable the company to manufacture solar modules at the forefront of efficiency while supporting India's target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030. Vish Iyer, Managing Director for India and West Asia at Caelux, also highlighted the partnership's potential to accelerate the commercial deployment of advanced solar technologies in one of the world's fastest-growing renewable energy markets.

Perovskite-silicon tandem technology is widely regarded as one of the most promising advancements in photovoltaic research. While conventional crystalline silicon modules typically achieve commercial efficiencies of around 22–24 percent, tandem architectures have already surpassed 30 percent efficiency in laboratory settings, with manufacturers worldwide racing to commercialise the technology. By layering perovskite cells over silicon cells, tandem modules utilise a broader portion of the solar spectrum, significantly increasing energy output without increasing module size.

The collaboration reflects a broader transformation within India's solar manufacturing industry, which is rapidly shifting from conventional photovoltaic production toward high-efficiency technologies such as TOPCon, Heterojunction (HJT), Back Contact (BC) and perovskite-silicon tandem modules. As global demand for higher-performance solar panels continues to rise, partnerships like the one between Rayzon Solar and Caelux are expected to accelerate technology transfer, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and enhance India's competitiveness in the global clean energy supply chain while supporting the country's long-term energy transition goals.
